Johanna Mack is a PhD-Fellow in the Graduate School MEDAS 21 and contributes to the Erich-Brost-Institute's Africa-Project. She is a co-editor of the German website of the European Journalism Observatory
She completed a master's degree in National and Transnational Studies at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster in May 2019 with a master thesis on "Mediating the 'Arab Spring': A Comparative Study of the Role of Conventional Mass Media and New Online Media in Jordan, 2011-2013". In 2017, she received a bachelor's degree in Applied Literary and Cultural Studies, Journalism and French at TU Dortmund and Ruhr Universität Bochum.
Her commitment to research and journalistic practice brought her to Rome (Radio Vaticana) and Lünen (Ruhr Nachrichten) as a freelancer, to India and Cambodia as a participant in summer schools and to Worcester (UK) for an Erasmus semester. In 2017, she
helped to co-organize an excursion to Jordan for master students at the Erich-Brost-Institute and in 2018, she helped to implement
a workshop on media and migration in Côte d'Ivoire.
